The small CNC – E2 – has been involved in a near-miss fire.
A small fire, caused by unintentionally cutting deep into the spoilboard.
Unintentional because the stepper motor stalled during a z-axis retraction and thereby misplaced the next z-axis move. This is the same behavior that has been seen several times over the last year, and to the best of my knowledge for several years. Therefore it is very importance to reduce speed on the E2 CNC.
Running fast – especially when performing excessive z-movements will cause errors that might damage your project – or as in this case cause fire.
Reduce speed to 70 or 80% of full speed.
Experiments to locate and remove this periodic error is planned in near future. Updates will follow…
Please remember the new fire Extinguisher spray, located om the CNC.
